Job Summary
Job description: Design and verify systems to meet manufacturers guidelines, functional requirements, and certification standards Develop CAD models (2D & 3D) and perform calculations for system components and equipment Determine the build sequence and “design intent” for various systems Ensure that specifications issued to production are complete and up-to-date Investigate and implement new technologies to enhance quality and reduce costs Maintain an accurate and updated Bill of Materials (BOM) Conduct critical quality checks for new parts and engineering changes Specify and test new equipment to assess feasibility for implementation Ensure project deadlines and deliverables are met Manage and prioritize workloads, guide and mentor team members Develop and implement annual training plans in consultation with the department manager Oversee team performance, manage attendance, and handle disciplinary issues Conduct interviews and manage recruitment for the Systems Engineering team Manage the Engineering Change Request (ECR) system, including project assignment, monitoring, and approval Approve all technical documents related to Systems, such as drawings, SOPs, and BCRs Provide on-site support during prototyping and ECR implementation Offer technical input and clarity to Manufacturing, Quality, and Process Engineers Assist Logistics & Stores Departments with BOM queries and part usage Provide feedback on warranty claims and support the Commissioning team Support Technical Purchasing and Project Management with technical queries and project updates Skills & Experience: Engineering Expertise: Minimum 5-10 years in boat, yacht, or ship building, with extensive design experience CAD Proficiency: Advanced skills in SolidWorks CAD and SolidWorks PDM Leadership: Proven ability to manage a team, balance workloads, and meet project deadlines Technical Insight: Strong understanding of design for manufacturing and build sequences Attention to Detail: Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail 3D Perception: Strong spatial awareness and an eye for design aesthetics Boating Knowledge: Interest in boating and boat building; sailing experience is advantageous Software Proficiency: Experience with Syspro is a plus Qualifications Minimum: National Degree (NQF Level 6) in Engineering or related field (Boat/Yacht/Ship Building), ideally in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or Electrical Engineering Preferred: BTech/BSc/B.Eng. degree (NQF Level 7/8) in a related engineering field Embrace this opportunity to lead a dynamic team in an innovative boat building environment.
