Responsibilities:

Curate and manage the lodge`s wine program, ensuring an exceptional selection that complements our gourmet offerings. Collaborate with the culinary team to pair wines with menu items and accommodate guest preferences. Conduct wine tastings and presentations for guests, showcasing our diverse wine collection. Provide personalized wine recommendations and maintain detailed knowledge of current and future wine offerings. Maintain and oversee cellar stock control, including the physical transfer and replenishment of wines. Manage bulk wine facilities and ensure accurate sales, invoicing, and stock administration. Train and develop lodge staff in wine service and knowledge enhancement. Foster effective communication and teamwork across departments to ensure seamless guest experiences.

Requirements:

Sommelier qualification, such as a Cape Wine Diploma or equivalent. Basic international wine course certification (e.g., WSET Level 3). Proven experience in a hospitality setting with a strong focus on guest interactions and service excellence. Proficiency in MS Office; familiarity with MS Project is advantageous. Excellent email etiquette and strong attention to detail. Outstanding communication skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships. Demonstrated salesmanship, leadership, and management abilities. Passion for wine with a deep knowledge of global wines and trends. Physical stamina and resilience to handle wine transfers and work extended hours when necessary. Highly organized with excellent administrative skills. Team-oriented mindset with a commitment to staff development. Professional appearance and approachable demeanor. Valid driver`s license and South African nationality or valid work visa.

Requirements:

Proven experience as a Sommelier in a high-end restaurant or luxury hospitality environment. Extensive knowledge of wines, spirits, and beverages, including regions, varietals, and vintages. Strong sensory evaluation skills and ability to discern quality and characteristics of wines. Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to engage and educate guests effectively. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and under pressure. Certification from a recognized sommelier program (e.g., Court of Master Sommeliers, WSET) preferred.
