JOB TITLE : O&M BESS Technician MANAGER : Head of O&M LOCATION : Johannesburg/CPT QUALIFICATIONS : • Matric • N5/N6 Electrical Engineering or BTech Electrical and Wiremans License ROLE OVERVIEW: The Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) Technician, also known as an Energy Storage Technician, will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Battery Energy Storage Systems. These systems are crucial components in renewable energy projects, grid stabilization, and energy management. This person will be required to work with the engineering and projects teams to complete the commissioning of PV sites but will mainly focus on the operations and maintenance of the BESS after project commissioning. This person is also responsible for engaging with the client post go live to ensure the solution is up to standard and adapted as needed. Occasional site visits for Key-clients will be a requirement to ensure there is a good understanding of the site and to establish relationships with key onsite staff. The role will also be required to maintain full documentation of all PV BESS related activities for each site. ESSENTIAL SKILLS : • Office 365 • Advanced Excel • Strong Analytical skills • Critical Thinker • Great Problem solving and fault finding skills • Administrative skills • PLC and Programming skills • Client interaction skills • Effective time management • At least 2 to 3 years’ experience with working with BESS systems • Self Starter • Strong Technical Aptitude EXPERIENCE REQUIRED • Minimum 2-3 years working experience working with BESS systems in a Renewable Energy environment. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Installation and Commissioning: • Install and commission Battery Energy Storage Systems according to design specifications and project requirements. • Connect and integrate BESS components, including batteries, inverters, controllers, and monitoring systems. Maintenance and Monitoring: • Conduct routine inspections and maintenance to ensure the optimal performance of BESS. • Monitor system parameters, analyze performance data, and identify potential issues. • Implement preventive maintenance measures to avoid downtime and maximize system reliability. • Ensure performance is aligned to use case of BESS system. Troubleshooting and Repairs: • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with BESS components and systems. • Perform repairs or replacements of faulty components, ensuring minimal system downtime. • Collaborate with engineers and other technical staff to resolve complex problems. Testing and Validation: • Conduct performance tests on BESS to verify compliance with specifications. • Validate system functionality and efficiency, making adjustments as needed. Documentation: • Maintain detailed records of installation, maintenance activities, and repairs. • Create reports on system performance, issues, and resolutions for internal and external stakeholders. Safety Compliance: • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines during installation, maintenance, and repair activities. • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations (OHSA Act 85 of 1993). Training and Support: • Provide training and support to other technicians or relevant personnel. • Assist in the development of training materials and documentation. Customer Interaction: • Communicate with clients to understand their requirements and address any concerns. • Provide technical assistance and guidance to clients on BESS operation and maintenance
