Job Summary
PURPOSE:
- Custodian of Civil Engineering for feasibility studies and ensure discipline engineering standards and specifications are defined and maintained throughout study development
- Responsible for all technical and engineering aspects related to design through project lifecycle to ensure optimum performance to business requirements, organisational objectives, and sound engineering practice.
- Act as an interface between project team and operational teams.
- To deliver technical solutions that comply to design process requirements
- Lead design reviews/audits to ensure that designs are in accordance with project lifecycle requirements and produced in a timely and cost- effective manner
MAJOR CHALLENGES:
- Time pressure to develop high quality design requirements and deliverables
- Design reviews during study development phases
- Quality of design discipline deliverables that comply to customer and regulatory requirements
- Scope development and management
- Change management
- Working on multiple feasibility studies simultaneously.
- Ensure continuation from study phase to implementation
- Aligning study phase standards and procedures with operational standards and procedures.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Best Practice and Knowledge Management
- Initiate continuous improvement initiatives leading to cost saving ideas
- Keeping abreast of technology trends
- Conduct applied research work to initiate process changes
- Provide inputs throughout the project life cycle towards improving process flow for projects
- Assume responsibility for engineering discipline design as representative of the feasibility study teams in projects
- Implement knowledge management processes (professional networks)
- Business Performance and Operations
- Support service delivery within department and project budget parameters
- Investigate complex engineering problems and develop solutions for optimisation of engineering systems
- Technical contribution in individual skill area based on sound principles
- Increase awareness of tech advancements to ensure access to appropriate technology to meet business deliverables and can expand technical base to access new areas of business
- Adhere to appropriate quality management systems
- Ensure skills and technology communication to business units
- Adhere to appropriate quality management systems

- Liaising with operational, maintenance, services, and project teams
- Compliance, Governance and Assurance
- Manage project in compliance with Enterprise-Wide Project Management (EWPM) procedures

- Ensure compliance to sound engineering standards and practices
- Ensure Safety Health Environment and Community (SHEC) compliance during project life cycle
- Customer and Client Relationship Management
- Provide expert technical support and direction to project teams and business units
- Provide technical oversight and manage interface between project team and design consultant.

- Adhere to the systems and initiatives to drive performance excellence

- Functional Management
- Adhere to functional policies, standards, guidelines, procedures, end-to-end processes, tools, templates etc.
- Assist in standardising, simplifying and speeding-up functional processes, eliminating duplication/bureaucracy within feasibility studies
- Apply functional best practices, promote sharing of bestpractices/knowledge
- Implement project management principles and practices for planning and design of project outcomes
- Conduct complex analysis of project systems and processes to support business case
- Provide technical inputs to the project team
- Provide inputs in designs, technical reviews, Hazard and Operability
- Study (HAZOPS) and other project related reviews
- Ensure design for operability, maintainability, and efficiency
- Review discipline design drawings and technical documents
- Review of engineering deliverables including models, drawings,
- calculations, specifications, reports, evaluations and preparation of
- technical specifications and design criteria
- Provide inputs to capital estimates
- Provide inputs to schedule estimates
- Project Management
- Evaluate and complete projects with minimum risk, within allocated
- timeframes and according to specified budgetary requirements.
- Manage projects regarding design processes, and technology andequipment selection.
- Manage project life cycle
- Safe and Healthy Work Environment
- Maintain and ensure a healthy environment, safe operations, and
- practices, ensuring compliance with all applicable SHEC policies and
- procedures in line with set standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
- BEng Civil Engineering ( Essential/Minimum or )
- BSc Civil Engineering ( Essential/Minimum or )
- B Tech Civil Engineering ( Essential/Minimum )
- Management Development Programme ( Recommended/Desirable )
- 6 years Strong understanding of civil engineering principles and design experience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to lead technical aspects of design
