Job Summary
Main purpose of the job: To operate ultrasound equipment to acquire, interpret and selectively record anatomical images, physical data and real time physiological information for health research purposes and work in conjunction with other medical practitioners for medical diagnosis as appropriate Location: DPHRU, Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto – Johannesburg Key performance areas: Performance of Sonography Experience of conducting 2D and 3D ultrasound with doppler where relevant in adults and children, including ultrasound of the heart, carotid, kidneys and conducting fetal ultrasound during pregnancy including assessment of uterine and umbilical artery blood flow Must be able to interpret images and generate reports, capturing data and images into an electronic data capture system Must be able to conduct all ultrasound assessments including doppler measures and be willing to train and supervise junior sonography trainees including implementing quality control and quality assurance measures for all imaging conducted Support the research team to deliver the project goals on time and on budget Work with medical professionals to develop standard operating procedures and to support the referral and further evaluation of study participants as per the standard operating procedures Equipment use and maintenance Conduct routine daily inspection of equipment and quality assurance procedures, reporting any deficiencies or malfunction to the appropriate manager Take responsibility for keeping the department in general and specifically the work area, clean, tidy and safe Ensure effective and economic use of resources and report all occurrences of defects which may affect health and safety Quality assessment/quality improvement Ensure that the sonography examination results meet the SOP and Unit standards for Quality Assurance before findings are released for interpretation Work with the appropriate staff to ensure quality patient care Administration Recording and regularly submitting statistics on ultrasounds performed Required minimum education and training: National Diploma in Diagnostic Radiography (Ultrasound)/Bachelor of Technology in Radiograph/Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography Required minimum work experience: Minimum 2 years working experience as a Sonographer Experience with conducting fetal anatomy scans is compulsory Trained and registered as a Sonographer Professional body registration: Must be registered in ultrasonography with HPCSA Desirable additional education, work experience and personal abilities: Advanced computer literacy Report writing and Attention to detail Research background and GCP will be advantageous Ability to work independently to deliver on projects operational goals and objectives Teaching and supervision experience would be desirable Confidentiality, tact, and discretion must be maintained at all times Ability to manage self and prioritize own workload Self-motivated, able to work independently and work as part of a multidisciplinary team Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines Excellent organizational, communication and problem-solving skills Flexible hours are available TO APPLY: Only if you do meet the minimum job requirements and experience as mentioned above, you may submit a detailed updated CV.
