INVESTMENT PRINCIPAL | SENIOR INVESTMENT ASSOCIATE (Private Equity: Infrastructure) – Western Cape, SA

Our Client, a highly reputable Private Equity Infrastructure Investment firm is currently expanding their team of professionals and seeking to appoint an experienced Investment Principal with ambitions to develop into an Investment Partner over the next three to four years.

One would describe you as being a highly self-motivated professional who has a strong work ethic and drive for excellence as well as keen sense of attention to detail. You possess solid qualitative and quantitative valuation/analytical/financial skills; as well as strong data management and research skills.

You are a natural leader, problem-solver and decision maker who the acute ability to analyse complex information to identify the key issue/actions required to drive resolutions under stringent deadline pressure.

 

Qualification, Skills and Experience required:

• CA (SA) or CFA  or MBA or Masters’ degree or related technical and / or quantitative emphasis (finance, engineering, accounting, law, etc)
• 4-5 years’ experience gained in the deal making environment within the private equity / mezzanine / debt investing arena with a Tier 1 strategy firm ideally with private equity due diligence exposure
• Proven Valuation and Financial Modelling skills
• Deal sourcing and effective transaction execution experience
• Presentation skills and report writing skills with the ability to argue cases
• Investment Analysis Risk management
• Proven track record of leading transactions in the unlisted/private markets sector alternatively, experience in highly analytical roles in investment banking, and venturing will be taken into consideration
• Advanced and proven working knowledge of MS Excel, Word and PowerPoint

 

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Deal Origination:

• Build and maintain a network of deal sources within the early-stage investment ecosystem that regularly introduce high quality opportunities into the fund’s pipeline
• Business development and marketing products
• Structure downside risk protection and to hedge business case assumptions with appropriate warranties
• Structure clear exit provisions for the company investments

Deal Evaluation:

• Manage a pipeline of potential investments at different stages of the screening process, with senior support. Apply the Company’s investing methodology to craft a high-level investment thesis and together with financial evaluation and investment structuring, motivate transactions to the rest of the deal team

Deal Execution – Due Diligence:

• Undertake focused research and analysis as part of the due diligence process to understand the growth potential of a small business (including executing fundamental strategic analysis and applying sound business judgment to assess the market opportunity, the business model, and core team)
• Analyse historical financials and conduct financial modelling in order to value the company
• Own one or more workstreams with the DD

Deal Execution – Closing:

• Drafting, negotiation and execution of legal agreements
• Manage and oversee the investment process and ensure that Investment Analysts follow and adhere to implementation of deals processes as outlined
• Ensure that Investment Analyst`s adhere to submission deadlines as agreed from time to time
• Effective transaction hand-over process and on-going collaboration with Post-Investment Monitoring teams and Value-Add Team
• Meet with stakeholders and managing relationships

Business Activities:

• Strategy Implementation – Input in the implementation of approved strategies and business plan

People Management:

• Review work by Investment Analyst’s and provide input
• Assist in staff development through training and mentorship
