Job Summary
Civil Design Engineer – Midrand
EDUCATION & SKILLS:
- Minimum of a completed National Diploma/National Technical Diploma(S4), ND(T3) NTD (N6) or B.Eng/BSc. in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years design and draughting.
- Must have good technical writing skills.
- Must be computer literate (MS Office Suite).
- Experience in Renewable Energy (Solar PVplants) preferred.
- Must have experience working on AutoCAD.
- Previous experience working on Civil 3D and Prokon (advantageous)
COMPETENCIES:
- Must be able to communicate in English, both written and verbal.
- Must be able to plan work accordingly to meet tight deadlines and cope under pressure.
- An ability to read and understand technical drawings and pay close attention to details.
- Must be able to work in a team-driven environment with minimal supervision.
- Good organization and time management skills.
- Interfacing with other disciplines such as mechanical, structural and electrical engineering is required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Candidate will be involved with various phases of projects i.e. FEED (feasibility), Basic Design, Detail Design, Procurement, Manufacturing, Construction, Commissioning, End of Job in the Renewable Energy (Solar PV Plants) environment.
- Acting as a discipline lead on projects. (advantageous)
- Managing the execution of project scope in accordance with the project schedule and within budget. (advantageous)
- Interdisciplinary interfacing and attention to change management.
- Interaction with Suppliers/Vendors.
- Mentoring of junior engineers.
- Assist with value-added engineering, continuous improvement on projects and internal discipline work methods and procedures.
- Correctly interpret the functional requirements and design accordingly
- Cost estimating, man-hours estimates and Write-Ups / Scope of Work documents and specifications.
- Development of deliverables schedule of all documents and drawings within the scope of work.
- Development of project schedules. (Knowledge of MS Project or P6 advantageous)
- Development of basic and detailed engineering packages based on Client, Local and International standards.
- Focused on building good client relations.
- Professional sign-off on designs (advantageous).
- Specific required skills in terms of software packages:
- AutoCAD (Required)
- Prokon (advantageous)
- Civil 3D (advantageous)
- MS Projects(advantageous)
- PVSyst (advantageous)
